It's been a heck of a week, as my family and I have both celebrated and mourned as our loved ones joined us for the first time and as others took their last moments. On December 22nd, my brother and his wife welcomed their first child. A child they dreamed of and wanted for so long. They are sinking into parenthood nicely, and it's adorable to hear my brother gush over his wife and new baby. It's equally cute to listen to him talk about lack of sleep and the overall optimism of a new parent trying their best to do it all but who is too exhausted to talk on the phone. First-time parents, It's going to be okay. I don't know how, but it will. Trust yourself, get to know your baby, and lean into the people who support you. I can speak to this from experience. You will need guidance and support - always.
On Christmas morning, I received a message from my Mom, letting me know that her aunt passed away. With most passings, a weird string of events, usually spiritual, seem to transpire. At least, that's always been the case for me. I didn't know my Great Aunt very well, but what I do know is that she was still on the move the last time I saw her. She was fun, and she could kick back and keep up with my Gram's wild ways, and for that, I know she must have been an incredible woman. I have photos of them together, living life, laughing, and loving. And the stories of their shenanigans are pretty legendary. I could only hope to live a life that others describe that way.
I mourn her loss and have the most sincere empathy for what her children and grandchildren are going through. I can only hope that all of our Angels are up there watching over us, finding the same earthly joy we feel with a new family members' arrival and guiding us in the difficult moments we face with their absence.
I hope if you are reading this, you carve out moments to celebrate the people in your lives. Check-in on them, send them a note of love and encouragement, and thank them for what they bring to your life. Maybe that's not something you can do right now, either by circumstance or fear, but sending the ones you love good energy, and even the ones you don't, works. I like to call it "Boomerang Wisdom" because what you send out - always comes back.
