I love the day after Christmas. The house is a mess, no one gets out of their jammies, and we eat our way through the leftovers. The number of carbs I've shoved in my face while binge-watching season two of "You" is embarrassing. But, I'm out here in Dallas trying to live my best life, so y.o.l.o.
We crammed in ice-skating and caroling, work parties, cookie decorating, hot cocoa, and looking at lights. It's been fun - but busy. That's why I love days like today - where the collective feels the slowdown. Everyone I love and have contact with is doing something similar- slowing down, zoning out, and just being.
Over the next few days, as we end this season and springboard, Simone Biles style into 2020, promise me you will take some time to slow down too.
Let your FitBit send you reminders to get moving. Who cares if Netflix asks if you're still watching? You should be. Consider it your job to ignore the notifications and alarms and snuggle into the couch and rest instead.
Rest is a practice, and if we start now, it will be a smooth transition to a part of our lifestyle in the new year.
And for the love of all things, eat the leftovers.
